Erstwhile known as Nadar Bank ltd, the bank was established in 1921 in Tamil Nadu. The bank had only 4 branches till 1947 at Tuticorin, Madurai, Sivakasi and Virudhnagar. Currently the bank has 438 full fledged branches all over India, 10 regional offices, 11 extension counters, 6 central processing centres,3 currency chests , 1 service branch and 915 Automated Teller Machines (ATMs). The bank opened its first branch outside Tamil Nadu in the year 1976 at Bangaluru. The bank has done tie-ups with other banks—HDFC Bank (531 location) and IDBI bank ( 136 locations)to increase it reach. This has increased the branch network of the bank to 1105 effectively. The bank focuses on serving the rural population. Out of its total 438 branches, 393 branches are located at rural, semi-urban and urban (non-metro) cities.
