Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India is the biggest insurer in India providing services in every nook and corner of the country. The organisation provides various insurance facilities under various schemes such as term insurance plans, pension plans, money back plans, endowment plans, whole life plans, rider plans and term assurance plans. The government has made it mandatory to link Aadhaar card with all LIC policies.

The last date set for linking such schemes with Aadhaar is 31st March 2018. In case a policy holder fails to do so during this period, he will not receive the policy benefits until and unless he links the service with Aadhaar. As per the latest ruling by the 5 judge bench of the Supreme Court led by the Chief Justice of India, the court has denied to extend the Aadhaar linking deadline and all policy holders will have to get their policies linked with Aadhaar within the stipulated timeframe.

Linking Aadhaar with LIC Policies Online

LIC has started providing a number of facilities online. Linking insurance policies with Aadhaar is one such service provided by the organisation. However, you need to furnish your PAN as well to avail this facility. Also, you need to be a registered online user of the organisation. In case you have not already registered for availing online facilities, you have to register with the organisation and then you can link Aadhaar with your policies online. Follow these steps to link your LIC policy with Aadhaar online:

  • Read the information carefully and click on the “Proceed” button
  • Fill your details such as name, date of birth, father’s name, gender, PAN, Aadhaar, policy number and e-mail address.

  • Enter the captcha code and click on “Get OTP”
  • An OTP will be sent to your mobile number registered with Aadhaar
  • Enter this OTP and click on “Submit”
  • Your request will be submitted
  • The data is sent to UIDAI’s CIDR for verification
  • After proper verification, your LIC policy is linked with Aadhaar and PAN
  • A confirmation message will be sent to your registered mobile number and e-mail address

Linking Aadhaar with LIC Policies Offline

People who have not registered for online services with LIC can link their policies with Aadhaar through offline process as well. This policy is useful for those people as well who do not have a PAN card. People who do not have PAN can link their policies with Aadhaar by submitting Form – 60. Here’s how you can link your LIC policy with Aadhaar:

  • Carry your Aadhaar card, PAN/Form 60 and all policy documents
  • You can download the Aadhaar/PAN Mandate Form from LIC’s website
  • You can also get this form at any LIC office
  • Fill the form mentioning your Aadhaar number, PAN and other details
  • Visit a nearby LIC office and submit the Aadhaar/PAN Mandate form along with the self-attested copies of your proofs
  • You can be asked to show the original copies of Aadhaar and PAN for verification
  • Carry your original Aadhaar and PAN as well
  • The form will be accepted by the executive
  • After verification from UIDAI, your Aadhaar and PAN will be linked with your LIC policy
  • A confirmation message will be sent to you on successful Aadhaar linking with your LIC policy

Why LIC Policies Should be Linked with Aadhaar?

Aadhaar and PAN are being made compulsory for availing a number of financial services. The aim of the government is to streamline the system and authenticate all financial transactions to curb black money. Aadhaar is also being linked with various other facilities such as UAN for EPF, bank accounts, mutual funds, demat accounts, etc. to name a few. You should also link all your insurance policies including those with LIC because,

  • Linking of all insurance policies with Aadhaar has been made compulsory by the insurance regulator, Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI)
  • If you do not link all your policies with Aadhaar before the deadline ends, your policy will be deactivated
  • Prevention of Money-laundering (Maintenance of Records) Second Amendment Rules, 2017 states that a person has to link all his financial instruments with Aadhaar and PAN to continue availing all such services

Points to Remember while Linking Aadhaar with the LIC Policy

Before you go for linking your LIC policy with Aadhaar and PAN, you should remember the following points:

  • Keep all details of your PAN, Aadhaar and LIC insurance policies handy
  • You have to mention the mobile number that is registered with UIDAI. If you have not registered your mobile number with Aadhaar, it is best advisable that you get it done first to avail all Aadhaar-based online facilities
  • A successful request submission message is sent to you after placing the request
  • LIC verifies the data with UIDAI. When UIDAI reverts in affirmation, the Aadhaar and PAN is linked with your policies
  • A confirmation message is sent to the mobile number/email id on successful Aadhaar linking

Last Date for Linking Aadhaar with LIC Policy

The last day for linking Aadhaar with all insurance policies was set to 31st December 2017 by IRDAI. But the Central Government extended the date of linking all services and instruments with Aadhaar to 31st March 2018. A further extension was requested from Supreme Court which has been denied by the 5-judges bench led by the CJI Dipak Misra which means that all policies have to be mandatorily linked with Aadhaar by 31st March.
